Turmeric is a deep yellow spice made from the dried and ground rhizomes of turmeric (Curcuma longa), a member of the Ginger family (Zingiberaceae). It has a warm peppery flavour and is used to season and colour many cuisines especially Indian. It is also used as a food colourant (E100).
