Liquid crystal display grid. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of the grid surrounding the pixels of a laptop computer's liquid crystal display (LCD). The pixels are tiny areas of the computer screen. The grid supplies electric charge to the liquid crystals in each pixel. This changes the optical properties of the liquid crystals, which produces the changing colours on an LCD computer screen. Magnification: x170 when printed 10cm high.
