Frog beetle (Notiophilus aquaticus)
Ref: 14547jDescription:
Frog beetle. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of a frog or garden ground beetle (Notiophilus aquaticus). This beetle's common name comes from its resemblance to a frog caused by its huge protruding eyes. It is a fast-running beetle and a voracious hunter. By day it generally hides under stones and logs, emerging at night to hunt small worms, slugs and other insects. Its powerful mouthparts are shaped for grabbing and holding its prey.
