Common morpho butterfly (Morpho peleides) with closed wings. The underside of the wings of this species are a rich brown with white markings and yellow and black eyespots. When threatened it releases a chemical with a strong odour from a gland between its forelegs, in order to deter predators. It is common in Central America and the West Indies.
