Ref: 00588dDescription:
Coiled millipede. Coloured scanning electron micrograph of a coiled garden millipede, Cylindroiulus londinensis. Millipedes are arthropods. They have bodies made up of several similar segments and relatively large numbers of legs. When handled or threatened they curl up into a tight ball, as seen here. The millipede's head is at centre right with the end of its curved antenna lying over its simple eye (triangular). Several pairs of legs can be seen extending from its segmented body. Millipedes live in damp habitats, living on fungi and decaying matter. Magnification: x15 at 6x7cm size.
