Cherimoya fruit (Annona cherimola)
Ref: chiri4Description:
Known sometimes as Chirimoya (Spain) or Custard Apple (UK), the cherimoya is native to Peru, Ecuador, Colombia and Bolivia and commercially grown in many countries including Australia, South America, Spain, Italy and Asia. They are considered by some to be one of the best fruits in the world, having a rich creamy tasting pulp which makes it an ideal dessert fruit. They do have a short shelf life however, which makes them difficult to store. They need consuming within a few days of harvesting. This image clearly shows how many of the dark brown or black bean-like seeds there are in just one fruit. This does make the cherimoya a little tedious to eat but their lovely taste makes it well worth while as long as the seeds are not eaten as they are extremely toxic.
