Cascabel chilli seed, coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM). The cascabel chilli is a cultivar of the domestic chili plant (Capsicum annuum). When dried, the seeds within the fruit create a rattling noise when shaken. Chillis are used in cooking for their hot flavour, which is caused by the capsaicin compound.
