Barbados nut oil (Jatropha curcas)
Ref: q3g5501Description:
Jatropha curcas oil. Light micrograph of a section through a seed of the Barbados nut plant (Jatropha curcas), showing its oil content (stained orange). The granules stained yellow-green are protein. Oil extracted from the seeds of this plant is used as a biofuel, and can be further refined into biodiesel, suitable for use in a conventional diesel engine. Biofuels such as biodiesel are clean, renewable sources of energy, and have less impact on the environment than fossil fuels such as diesel, petrol and coal. Magnification: x385 when printed at 10 centimetres wide.
