Light micrograph of Amoeba proteus, a naked or shell-less amoeba. A characteristic feature of this group are the numerous pseudopodia (false feet), temporary projections which constantly alter the outline of the organism. The pseudopodia are formed by cytoplasmic streaming and are used for locomotion and food collection. Numerous microbodies are visible within this amoeba's cytoplasm. Magnification: x200 at 35mm size.
