Allspice is the dried unripe fruit or berries of the Pimenta dioica plant. It's name is derived from the fact it was considered to resemble the flavour and aroma of cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg combined. It is used as a culinary spice in Caribbean and Middle Eastern cuisine.
